AI Processing Disclosure
Compass uses artificial intelligence to process educational data. This section describes what AI does and does not do within the platform.
What AI does in Compass
- Session summaries: AI generates written summaries of tutoring and coaching sessions based on educator notes, session recordings (where consented), and activity logs.
- Progress reports: AI analyzes session data over time to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
- Goal tracking: AI compares session activity against IEP goals or parent-defined objectives and reports progress.
- Recommendations: AI may suggest scheduling adjustments, resource materials, or focus areas based on student progress patterns.
What AI does NOT do in Compass
- AI does not make educational placement decisions (IEP team decisions remain with humans).
- AI does not determine eligibility for services or programs.
- AI does not replace educator judgment -- all AI outputs are advisory and subject to educator and parent review.
- AI does not autonomously contact students, parents, or schools.
- AI does not share data outside of Compass without explicit consent.
Human Oversight and Review
AI-generated outputs in Compass may be subject to human review depending on your service plan:
- Plans with human review included: A designated Kids on the Yard staff member (educator, care team member, or clinical supervisor, depending on service type) reviews AI-generated assessments, progress reports, and recommendations before they are delivered. The final record reflects the human-reviewed version.
- Plans without human review included: AI-generated outputs are delivered directly. Human review is available as an add-on service for an additional fee. Contact the care team for pricing.
- Plans with human review as an add-on: Some plans offer human review as an optional paid upgrade. When enrolled, the review process follows the same standards as plans with review included.
Regardless of plan type:
- Override authority: Authorized staff may modify, correct, supplement, or overwrite any AI-generated output at any time when review is performed.
- Educator annotations: Educators may add notes, corrections, or context to any AI-generated summary or report. These annotations become part of the official record.
- Dispute process: If a parent, student, or school disagrees with an AI-generated output, they may request a review (included in some plans, available for a fee on others) by a supervisor or qualified specialist. See the applicable Family Terms or Schools and Districts Terms for the correction and dispute process.
- Accountability: Kids on the Yard, not the AI, is responsible for the accuracy of all outputs delivered through Compass. AI is a tool that assists staff -- it does not replace professional judgment or accountability.
- Unreviewed outputs disclaimer: AI-generated outputs that have not undergone human review are clearly labeled as "AI-generated -- not reviewed by staff" within the platform. Parents, educators, and schools should treat unreviewed outputs as preliminary and advisory.
AI Model and Data Usage
- Compass uses third-party AI models (including but not limited to Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini) to process educational data.
- Student data is NOT used to train AI models. Kids on the Yard contractually prohibits its AI providers from using Compass data for model training.
- AI processing occurs in the United States under United States and Florida law.
- All AI-generated outputs are stored as part of the student's educational record and are subject to the same retention, access, and deletion rights as other records.
- For detailed information about AI usage across all Kids on the Yard services, see the AI Disclosure Policy.
Data Ownership
- Family Edition: Parents and students own their personal data and educational records. Kids on the Yard processes this data as a service provider under the terms of the Privacy Statement.
- Schools and Districts Edition: The school or district owns all education records provided to or generated through Compass under the school contract. Kids on the Yard processes this data as a "school official" under FERPA (20 U.S.C. Section 1232g). See Compass Schools and Districts Terms for the full data processing agreement.
