Kids on the Yard official company closure dates

USA Official Company Holidays Calendar

Our annual holiday calendars include two distinct categories of holidays with different operational scopes:

  • Federal holidays — full company closure. Offices, HR, Accounting, Care Team, and educational services are all unavailable.
  • Jewish religious holidays — HR and Accounting closed under our equal-application policy. Care Team operates with limited support only. Educators may continue to operate sessions at their own discretion. Kids on the Yard does not require educators to observe these holidays.

Each annual calendar below shows both categories in separate tables.

Religious Accommodation for All Faiths

Kids on the Yard respects employees of all religions, faith traditions, and those who hold no religious belief. The Jewish religious holidays listed in our annual calendars are observed at the company level for HR and Accounting only because those functions historically include staff who observe. The list is not exclusive, and KOTY does not require any employee to observe any religious holiday they do not personally observe.

Equal Treatment of All Religions

Any employee — regardless of religion — may request reasonable accommodation for sincerely held religious beliefs, observances, and practices, including but not limited to:

  • Christian observances (Good Friday, Easter, Christmas Eve, Epiphany, Orthodox Christmas, Orthodox Easter, Lent)
  • Muslim observances (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Ramadan, Mawlid, daily prayers)
  • Hindu observances (Diwali, Holi, Navratri)
  • Buddhist observances (Vesak, Bodhi Day)
  • Sikh observances (Vaisakhi, Guru Nanak Jayanti)
  • Bahá'í observances (Naw-Rúz, Ridván, Birth of the Báb, Birth of Bahá'u'lláh)
  • Jehovah's Witnesses observances (Memorial of Christ's Death)
  • Latter-day Saints observances
  • Indigenous and Native American religious observances
  • Atheist, agnostic, secular humanist, or non-religious convictions of conscience
  • Any other sincerely held religious or moral belief

The protection extends to the absence of religion. An employee who declines to observe any religion is equally protected.

Types of Accommodation Available

Religious accommodation is not limited to time off. Reasonable accommodation may include:

  • Schedule adjustments and shift swaps
  • Use of vacation, personal time, or unpaid leave for observance
  • Permission to work an alternative schedule on the affected day
  • Exceptions to dress and grooming standards (religious head coverings, hijabs, kippahs, turbans, religious garb, facial hair, religious jewelry)
  • Dietary accommodations during company functions
  • A designated quiet space for prayer or religious observance during the workday
  • Exceptions from particular work duties that conflict with sincere religious belief, where another reasonable arrangement is available

How to Request an Accommodation

To request a religious accommodation, contact the HR Team at [email protected]. You do not need to use any particular form or words. A simple notification that you have a religious need is sufficient to initiate the interactive process.

  • No documentation required. Kids on the Yard does not require employees to prove the sincerity or content of their religious beliefs except in the rare case where there is an objective basis to doubt sincerity. We will not ask invasive questions about your religious beliefs.
  • Confidentiality. All accommodation requests are kept confidential to the extent permitted by law and shared only on a need-to-know basis.
  • Interactive process. After receiving a request, Kids on the Yard will engage in a good-faith interactive dialogue with the employee to identify a reasonable accommodation.
  • Timely response. Requests are reviewed promptly. Time-sensitive requests (such as a religious holiday occurring within the next two weeks) are prioritized.

Legal Standard

Kids on the Yard provides reasonable religious accommodation in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local law, including:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. Section 2000e et seq.), as interpreted by the United States Supreme Court in Groff v. DeJoy (2023), which holds that an employer must accommodate a sincere religious practice unless doing so would result in substantial increased costs in the conduct of the employer's particular business. This is a higher bar than the prior "more than de minimis" standard and reflects the law as it stands in 2026.
  • California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Government Code Section 12940 et seq., which prohibits religious discrimination by employers with five or more employees and requires reasonable accommodation of religious belief, observance, and dress and grooming practices.
  • New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD), N.J.S.A. 10:5-1 et seq., which applies to all employers regardless of size and prohibits religious discrimination.
  • Florida Civil Rights Act (Fla. Stat. Chapter 760), South Carolina Human Affairs Law (S.C. Code Title 1, Chapter 13), and Montana Human Rights Act (MCA Title 49) protections, where applicable.

Anti-Retaliation

Kids on the Yard will not retaliate against any employee for requesting, using, or inquiring about a religious accommodation. Retaliation includes any adverse employment action — termination, demotion, schedule changes, reduction in hours, denial of opportunities, or harassment — taken because of an accommodation request. Employees who believe they have been retaliated against should report it to the HR Team at [email protected] or to the Owner/CEO at [email protected].

Why Jewish Holidays Are Listed and Other Religions Are Not

The fact that a particular religious holiday is not listed in the annual calendar above does not mean it is unobserved at KOTY. It means that holiday is not a corporate-level closure for HR and Accounting. Individual employees of any faith may still observe their own holidays through the religious accommodation process described above. The Jewish holidays appear in the calendar because KOTY's HR and Accounting staff currently include employees who observe them; the listing is descriptive of current operational coverage, not a statement of religious preference. As KOTY's workforce changes, the calendar may be updated to reflect the religious observances of additional staff.

Important Notes

  • Federal holidays: full company closure. No services of any kind on those dates.
  • Jewish religious holidays: HR and Accounting closed; Care Team limited; educators may continue at their own discretion.
  • Holiday schedules are subject to change with advance notice.
  • KOTY is headquartered in the United States and observes U.S. federal holidays as the default company schedule. Online services are available to international users, but holiday closures follow the U.S. federal holiday calendar. International users with questions about service continuity on their local holidays should contact [email protected].

Service Impact By Holiday Category

Federal Holidays — Full Closure

On federal holidays, the following are all unavailable:

  • Tutoring and coaching sessions (all educational services)
  • HR
  • Accounting
  • Care Team
  • New service bookings and scheduling modifications
  • Document processing and verification

Online platforms remain accessible for self-service browsing only.

Jewish Religious Holidays — Partial Closure

On Jewish religious holidays observed by Kids on the Yard:

  • HR is closed.
  • Accounting is closed. Payment processing and billing inquiries are paused; automated billing continues.
  • Care Team operates with limited support only. Non-urgent inquiries will receive delayed responses.
  • Educators may continue to operate at their own discretion. KOTY does not require educators to observe Jewish holidays. If your educator chooses to operate, your session proceeds normally. If your educator chooses to observe, the standard rescheduling rule applies.

Payroll and Payment Processing

Payroll and Payment Processing: When a scheduled payroll or contractor payment date falls on or immediately adjacent to a day when the Accounting and HR departments are closed (including federal holidays and religious observance holidays listed on this page), the payment may be processed up to two business days before or after the originally scheduled date. By accepting engagement with Kids on the Yard, all payees acknowledge and accept that payment processing dates are subject to adjustment based on the company holiday calendar published on this page. This applies to payroll and contractor payments only -- parent and student billing (credit card charges, subscriptions, and automatic payments) processed through our payment platform is not affected by department closures and continues to process on the standard billing cycle regardless of holiday schedules.

Emergency Support

Limited emergency support is available on all holidays for:

  • Safety concerns involving children (always report to 911 first if a child is in danger)
  • Technical issues preventing access to critical educational resources
  • Urgent billing or payment issues
  • Platform security incidents

Communication During Holidays

We will provide advance notice of holiday closures through:

  • Email notifications to registered users
  • Website announcements and banner notifications
  • Social media updates on our official channels
  • Direct communication for scheduled service participants

Make-Up and Rescheduling Policies

For services affected by holiday closures:

  • Scheduled sessions will be automatically rescheduled when possible
  • Make-up sessions will be offered for any missed holiday closures
  • No penalties or fees apply for holiday-related cancellations
  • Priority rescheduling for students with critical educational timelines
