Age requirements to use Kids on the Yard Accounts

Kids on the Yard provides services across the United States and internationally. Below are the minimum age requirements to manage your own Kids on the Yard account in the United States, where the state-specific age of majority determines the minimum self-management age. International users should contact [email protected] for account-management age guidance in their jurisdiction, as the age of majority and capacity to contract vary by country.

For younger children, a parent or legal guardian can create and manage a Family Account. When a child reaches the applicable U.S. age of majority (typically 18), they may transition to managing their own account.

Three distinct age concepts apply to Kids on the Yard accounts and should not be confused with each other:

  1. COPPA (under 13). Federal law (15 U.S.C. Sections 6501-6506) requires verifiable parental consent before Kids on the Yard collects personal information from any child under the age of 13. This applies regardless of the state of residence.
  2. Age of majority (typically 18, 19 in some states). State law determines when an individual is considered a legal adult and may enter contracts independently. The state-by-state table below shows the age of majority for U.S. states.
  3. Kids on the Yard account-management age. The minimum age at which an individual may manage their own Kids on the Yard account independently of a parent or guardian. Kids on the Yard sets this at the applicable U.S. state age of majority.
