Acceptable Use Policy

Overview

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") outlines the rules and guidelines for using Kids on the Yard services, platforms, and communications. By using our services, you agree to comply with this policy.

This AUP supplements our Terms of Service and Terms of Use, and applies to every property listed in the Domain List, including kidsontheyard.com, koty.app, and every *.koty.app subdomain (admin, affiliate, calendar, content, educator, hr, ledger, my, parent, schools, student).


General Principles

Expected Conduct

All users are expected to:

  • Use services for legitimate educational purposes
  • Treat others with respect and professionalism
  • Protect the privacy and safety of children
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Report violations or concerns promptly

User Categories

This policy applies to all users:

  • Students and their families
  • Parents and guardians
  • Educators and tutors
  • School administrators
  • Contractors and partners

Prohibited Activities

1. Harmful or Illegal Content

Users may NOT use our services to:

  • Create, share, or distribute:

    • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
    • Content exploiting or endangering children
    • Sexually explicit or pornographic content
    • Violent, threatening, or hateful content
    • Content promoting illegal activities
    • Misinformation that could cause harm
  • Engage in illegal activities:

    • Fraud or deception
    • Identity theft
    • Harassment or stalking
    • Discrimination based on protected characteristics
    • Violation of intellectual property rights

2. Security Violations

Users may NOT:

  • Attempt unauthorized access to systems or accounts
  • Use services to distribute malware, viruses, or harmful code
  • Conduct denial-of-service attacks or system disruption
  • Circumvent security measures or access controls
  • Probe, scan, or test system vulnerabilities without authorization
  • Intercept or monitor communications without consent
  • Engage in phishing or social engineering attacks

3. Privacy Violations

Users may NOT:

  • Collect personal information without consent
  • Share others' personal information without authorization
  • Record sessions or communications without required consents
  • Use data for purposes beyond those authorized
  • Violate COPPA, FERPA, or other privacy laws

4. Misuse of Services

Users may NOT:

  • Use services for unauthorized commercial purposes
  • Resell or redistribute services without authorization
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent identity
  • Create multiple accounts to evade restrictions
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) without permission
  • Interfere with others' use of services
  • Abuse refund or cancellation policies

5. Academic Misconduct

Users may NOT:

  • Submit others' work as their own (plagiarism)
  • Provide answers during assessments when prohibited
  • Use unauthorized materials during testing
  • Falsify academic records or progress
  • Help others engage in academic dishonesty

6. Communication Violations

Users may NOT:

  • Send spam or unsolicited communications
  • Use profane, abusive, or threatening language
  • Engage in bullying, harassment, or intimidation
  • Share inappropriate content in educational contexts
  • Violate professional boundaries

Platform-Specific Rules

Video Sessions

During live video sessions:

  • Dress appropriately
  • Use appropriate backgrounds
  • Minimize distractions
  • Keep cameras on when required by session rules
  • Mute when not speaking in group settings
  • No recording without explicit consent
  • Report inappropriate behavior immediately

Messaging and Chat

When using messaging features:

  • Keep communications professional and educational
  • No solicitation or advertising
  • No sharing of external links without educational purpose
  • Report inappropriate messages immediately
  • Retain messages for accountability

Learning Materials

When accessing educational content:

  • Do not share login credentials
  • Do not redistribute copyrighted materials
  • Report errors or inappropriate content
  • Use materials for personal educational use only

User Responsibilities

Account Security

Users must:

  • Maintain strong, unique passwords
  • Enable multi-factor authentication when available
  • Never share account credentials
  • Report suspected unauthorized access immediately
  • Log out from shared devices

Parental Responsibilities

Parents/guardians must:

  • Supervise children's use of services as appropriate
  • Provide accurate information during registration
  • Maintain current contact information
  • Review and understand applicable policies
  • Report concerns about their child's safety

Educator Responsibilities

Educators must:

  • Maintain professional boundaries with students
  • Report child safety concerns per mandatory reporting laws
  • Protect student privacy and educational records
  • Use platforms only for authorized educational purposes
  • Follow Kids on the Yard professional conduct standards
